• Surgical Complications and Management Around Teeth and Dental Implants: How to Apply Digital Technology to Prevent Complications

  • Implant therapy has been by far the most effective treatment modality to restore patients’ lost oral form and function since Professor P.I. Brånemark’s revolutionary discovery of osseointegration in 1952. Although many cases enjoy long-term success, complications related to both soft and hard tissues supporting dental implants have become increasingly prevalent.

This presentation will discuss efficient and precise methods of identifying various risk factors and prognosis at the time of initial consultation utilizing advanced digital technologies. Various surgical treatment modalities to restore form and function will be discussed. Complications related to esthetically and clinically demanding areas of the anterior and posterior maxilla and posterior mandible will be emphasized.

New innovations in the digital workflow for fully guided, full-arch treatment will also be addressed. This practical workflow enables the patients and the team to communicate more effectively in the treatment planning process, applying the crown-down, reverse engineering concept through CAD/CAM technology. The specifics of the protocol in the diagnostic, treatment planning, surgical, prosthetic and laboratory phases will be demonstrated through clinical cases. Future concepts will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the key determining factors for long-term success criteria: Survival vs Success
  • Appreciate and understand the value of precision in prosthetically driven implantology as well as advanced alveolar ridge augmentation procedures utilizing CBCT and CAD/CAM technology
  • Identify various sources of surgical complications and their management

+ Course Information

• 3D Guided Implant Surgery Changes the Game

  • Cone Beam and CAD/CAM technology have brought the power of 3D imaging into the dental office. CT-Guided dental implant planning and surgical techniques are far superior to traditional 2-dimensional imaging and "freehand" placement of dental implants. This results in a less invasive surgical procedure, awareness of anatomical challenges ahead of time, increased precision of implant placement, reduced surgical time, enhanced patient recovery, and more ideal prosthetic restoration of dental function and esthetics.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how 3D technology is used to improve the accuracy and consistency of dental implant planning and placement
  • Be able to discuss the work flow from 3D imaging, diagnostic study models and digital impressions to surgery
  • Understand why 3D CT-guided surgery is the future of implantology.

• Using the Power of CBCT-Guided Surgery for Fully Edentulous Patients

  • 3D treatment planning and guided surgery have improved the efficiency and accuracy of dental implant treatment. Being prosthetically-driven, the optimal placement of dental implants can be determined in the treatment planning stages. Bone architecture can be modified and augmented, if needed, to facilitate proper implant placement with adequate support. Consistently accurate guided surgery requires that the radiographic stent and surgical guide be identically positioned. Unlike the partially-edentulous situation, in a fully-edentulous patient, there are no teeth to stabilize and position these two appliances. This course will teach you techniques to obtain this accuracy and precision on every fully-edentulous case.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn techniques to accurately treatment plan implant placement in fully-edentulous patients
  • To critically evaluate your implant planning using 3D CBCT software to ensure adequate spacing, bony support, and long-term success
  • To ensure that surgical guides are properly positioned in surgery to achieve consistent results

+ Speaker Bio

Dr. Reznick has published extensively in the dental and medical literature and founded the educational website OnlineOralSurgery.com. • Using CBCT to make Diagnosis, Implants, Endo and Sleep Profitable

  • Most dentists understand the clinical value to CBCT, but are unaware of the impact advanced imaging will have on the practice's bottom line. Although all dentists want to provide the best care possible, many are unable to see beyond the "cost" of technology. This course will help doctors understand that CBCT can not only help their patients, but help the practice's bottom line. Dr. Pasicznyk will use his own dental practices as case studies to show the value CBCT can bring to the business of your practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand all potential clinical uses of CBCT: diagnosis of pathology, endodontic pre-planning and execution, digital implant planning and placement, and raising awareness of obstructive sleep apnea
  • What are the true financial benefits of fully utilizing CBCT within the dental practice, without adding a single new patient
  • Learn how CBCT can differentiate yourself within a crowded dental marketplace

• Maximizing Your CBCT with Internal Sinus Lifts

  • 3D Imaging for most dentists leads to starting to place implants or perhaps placing more than they were prior to it. However, one of the first hurdles that we run into as dentists placing implants is the need for more bone when the sinus drops down after tooth loss. Utilizing guided surgery and some simple techniques this course will walk through how to place implants in as little as 5mm of vertical bone using internal sinus lift techniques. Concepts include when to place short implants, when to bump the sinus, and when to do more traditional lateral window techniques.

Learning Objectives

  • How to utilize CBCT to plan for internal sinus lifts
  • Understand a simple step-by-step technique to internal sinus lifts
  • When to utilize these techniques and when to refer for more advanced augmentation
