• Simplifying Aligner Therapy for the CAD/CAM Dentist

  • This course will teach students how to deliver simple, predictable and cost-effective aligner therapy in their practice. Utilizing their existing CAD/CAM technology, students will learn how to properly take and submit records as well as monitor case progression throughout treatment. Students will also learn how to fabricate aligners in-house using 3D printing technology

Learning Objectives

  • How to capture digital scans and photographs to submit aligner cases
  • How to monitor case progression, place attachments and provide IPR
  • How to fabricate aligners in-house using 3D printing technology

+ Speaker Bio

  • Dr. Meena Barsoum practices general and implant dentistry in Chicago, IL, and serves as Resident Faculty at Spear Education in Scottsdale, AZ. Dr. Barsoum has been a CAD/CAM and 3D CBCT user since 2010, and currently trains doctors all over the world on CEREC and guided implant surgery. Dr. Barsoum is a regular speaker at the annual DSWorld event hosted by Dentsply Sirona. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, he completed his undergraduate degree at Kent State University and earned his dental degree at Case Western Reserve University. He then moved to Chicago, IL and completed a general practice residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. A firm believer in continuing education and embracing technology, Dr. Barsoum opened his practice, Impressive Smiles, in 2010, and currently maintains a thriving practice centered around CAD/CAM, implants and digital dentistry.

• In-Office Aligners (DIY): Powered by SureSmile® Digital Technology

  • SureSmile® Ortho in-office aligner design is ideal for cases requiring mild to moderate tooth movement. Designed to your treatment plan and simulation, a series of staged 3D models can be ordered from Dentsply Sirona, printed in-office, or by a local laboratory. The ability to design and fabricate aligners independently provides an opportunity to set your practice apart, saving time and money in the process.

+ Speaker Bio

  • Dr. Rathburn received her advanced training in Orthodontics at Emory University and has practiced with her husband, Dr. Michael Stewart as part of Atlanta Orthodontic Specialists since 1990. Their son Tyler Rathburn joined the practice in 2014. Atlanta Orthodontic Specialists has employed SureSmile 3-D diagnostics, treatment planning and orthodontic treatment since 2004. Dr. Rathburn has lectured worldwide on SureSmile 3-D orthodontic technology and is currently directing the SureSmile training program for Dentsply Sirona.

• The Impact of Digital Orthodontics in Today’s Practice

  • A complete digital workflow is finally available in orthodontics. Most modern orthodontic practices have endorsed and acquired the technology as well as the knowledge to be able to practice flawless in the digital space. Patient experience, staff workflow, versatility, quality, precision and cost of our orthodontic treatments can be positively affected. This presentation will provide important considerations and tips in order to reduce the learning curve when introducing a complete digital workflow into your office. In-House aligners are on demand and a great treatment modality to take advantage of these technologies and therefore a complete workflow for In-house aligners will be also reviewed.

+ Speaker Bio

  • Dr. Secchi maintains a private practice in Devon, PA. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. Dr. Secchi received his DMD, Certificate in Orthodontics, and a Master of Science in Oral Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, same institution where he taught for over 10 years holding the position of Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Director of the Department of Orthodontics. Dr. Secchi has published in various dental and orthodontic peer review journals in the areas of treatment mechanics and the straight wire appliance. He wrote the chapter “Contemporary Mechanics Using The Straight Wire Appliance” for the last two editions of the Graber/Vanarsdall/Vig orthodontic textbook. Dr. Secchi received the 2005 David C. Hamilton Orthodontic Research Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Orthodontists (PAO).
